He serves as deputy commander of the Baath Brigades, a pro-Assad militia formed in 2012, and is accused of war crimes, including the assassination of students in Aleppo during the revolution. Additionally, he is the vice president of the General Sports Federation and a member of the Syrian Olympic Committee. His planned attendance at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris faced condemnation from Syrian human rights NGOs before the IOC canceled his participation.
