A notable all-rounder, he played for Lancashire before moving to Leicestershire, becoming the youngest player to debut for Lancashire at 16. Marner was recognized for his hard-hitting batting and bowling capabilities, achieving significant milestones including the first limited-overs Man of the Match award. He also played rugby union and was involved with the Combined Services. Marner passed away on May 16, 2007, after a short illness.
