Preben von Magnus was a Danish virologist born on February 25, 1912, in Copenhagen and passed away on August 9, 1973. He is renowned for his research in influenza, polio vaccination, and monkeypox. He demonstrated the 'Von Magnus phenomenon' and co-led Denmark's first polio vaccination program with his wife, Herdis von Magnus, in the 1950s. In 1958, he confirmed the identity of the monkeypox virus and described its occurrence in laboratory macaques. He was also appointed director of the Statens Serum Institut and represented Denmark at the 1959 Pugwash Conference.
