Puru Dadheech, born on 17 July 1939, is a prominent Kathak dancer, choreographer, and educator of Indian classical dance. He is renowned for his pioneering contributions to Kathak, especially for establishing the first Kathak syllabus in 1961 at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya. He holds the first Doctorate in Kathak and emphasizes the importance of ancient Indian dance treatises like Natyashastra in his work. Currently, he is the Director of the first Kathak research Centre at Sri Sri University and has been awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award.
