Born on January 28, 1921, he served as a fighter pilot, completing 102 combat missions and 24 aerial battles, claiming 19 enemy aircraft destroyed alone and 3 in collaboration. After the war, he continued his military career, graduating from various military academies and commanding a division in the Air Defense Forces. Somov passed away on May 8, 1979, in Petrozavodsk and is buried at Suulaghor cemetery.
