Pyotr Chernyshov (1901–1966) was a major general in the Soviet Army and a participant in World War II. He joined the Red Army in 1920 and rose through ranks while participating in significant operations, including the defense of Smolensk. He was commander of several divisions and received multiple honors for valor during combat. After the war, he continued service in various military districts until his retirement in 1956. Chernyshov was named an honorary citizen of Smolensk in 1965 for his heroism in battles. He passed away in Moscow on March 11, 1966.
