He served as the director of the State Research Institute of Highly Pure Biopreparations from 2010 to 2016 and became a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2016. He is the son of the noted physiologist, S. A. Simbircev, who was also a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
