He coordinates the National Centre of Applied Human Genetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and has previously served as Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. In 2012, he received the Padma Shri Award from the President of India for his significant contributions to science and technology. Bamezai is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and has published numerous articles in his research field.
