Ranald Shean (1914–1997) was a Canadian violinist and conductor who studied in Edmonton and Vancouver. He co-founded the Edmonton Philharmonic, serving as conductor from 1941 to 1942. He organized the Edmonton Youth Symphony Orchestra and founded an amateur philharmonic orchestra in 1971. Shean also led the Edmonton Music Conservatory, teaching several prominent musicians. He received the Alberta Achievement Award in 1977 and was inducted into the Edmonton Arts and Culture Hall of Fame in 1990. The Shean Competition for Strings and Piano is named in honor of him and his pianist wife, Vera.
