Raphael Kaplinsky is an Honorary Professor at the Science Policy Research Unit and an Emeritus Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. He opposed Apartheid in South Africa during the 1960s and played a key role in the Mafeje affair. Kaplinsky's return to South Africa came after Nelson Mandela's release in 1990. He has mainly focused on industrial and technology policy research, contributing to national and regional policy development. His work includes advisory missions to governments across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
