Raymond Carver (May 25, 1938 - August 2, 1988) was an American short story writer and poet known for revitalizing the American short story during the 1980s. He is regarded as one of the most significant short story writers of the 20th century. Carver was influenced by American writer Ernest Hemingway and Russian writer Anton Chekhov, earning him the nickname 'the American Chekhov.' Some of his literary works have been adapted into films, and his works have been translated into over 20 languages worldwide.
