Richard Akel is an American former professional tennis player, born on February 12, 1962. He grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, with family origins in Palestine. Akel, a left-handed player, won two high school state championships and played collegiate tennis at Clemson University, where he contributed to three Atlantic Coast Conference championship teams. In his professional career, he achieved a best singles ranking of 345 and a doubles ranking of 182, winning one ATP Challenger title. He was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
