Richard LeRoy Hay (April 29, 1929 - February 10, 2006) was a renowned American geologist known for his work with Mary Leakey at the important Paleolithic site of Olduvai Gorge, crucial for studying human evolution. His scientific contributions extended to studying interactions among water, minerals, and surface organisms. Hay served as a geology professor for 26 years at the University of California, Berkeley, and 11 years at the University of Illinois. He received the Kirk Bryan Award in 1978 for his work on Olduvai and was posthumously honored by the American Geological Society in 2007.
