Haddon worked at the Australian National University and Bell Laboratories before becoming a professor at the University of Kentucky in 1997. He later directed the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering at UC Riverside. Haddon co-founded companies producing carbon nanotubes and discovered superconductivity in potassium-doped fullerenes, receiving the 2008 James C. McGroddy Prize.
