Born in Riga, he relocated to Posen and later to Ober-Ramstadt during WWII. He was ordained in 1961 and later became a member of the leadership in the Evangelical Church of Hesse and Nassau. Roessler advocated for a dialogical form of preaching and contributed extensively to theological publications, emphasizing the relationship between church and contemporary culture. His significant works include his dissertation on Emil Brunner and various writings on preaching and ecclesiastical practice.
