Originally from Kanagawa, Japan, he gained recognition as an Honorary Professor at various international institutions and authored numerous works on Buddhism. He experienced a tumultuous life, battling tuberculosis and overcoming personal tragedies, which shaped his spiritual journey. In 1978, he established Agon Buddhism, emphasizing the study of the Agon Sutra. Kiriyama was also a skilled Go player, achieving the honorary rank of 9-dan and contributing to cultural exchange through his teachings.
