Senekerim (Sem) Arakelian was an Armenian participant in World War I, noted for his role as one of the last veterans of the conflict. He survived the Armenian Genocide and, at the age of 16, fought in the Battle of Sardarapat. After World War II, he emigrated to the United States, settling in Montebello in 1957. He was born on May 1, 1902, and passed away on September 9, 2000, in the U.S.
