Sergey Nikolaevich Markov (1906-1979) was a writer and a full member of the USSR Geographical Society. He lived in Akmolinsk in 1917 and worked in various roles including the local food committee and newspaper, where his early poems were published. He met M. Gorky in 1929, which led to the publication of his first story collection and subsequent novels. Notable works include 'Yukon Crow' and 'Climbers', with many related to Akmolinsk. His contributions earned him awards, and one of the streets in Astana is named after him.
