Simon Hovnanyan was an Armenian engineer-hydrospecialist, born on February 13, 1909, in Yerevan, within the Caucasus Viceroyalty of the Russian Empire. He earned his doctorate in technical sciences in 1947 and became a professor in 1960. Hovnanyan was recognized as a distinguished figure in science and technology in the Armenian SSR in 1967 and was also honored as a distinguished builder in 1957. He passed away on April 15, 1975, in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, USSR.
