Sören Thunell (1939-2011) was a Swedish journalist and politician. After graduating, he worked as a ombudsman and served in various roles, including information officer for the Social Democrats and press secretary for Prime Minister Olof Palme. He was chief editor of Hälsingekuriren from 1978 to 1996. Thunell also held positions on several media boards and led a press inquiry that established enhanced state press support. He retired in 2002 and later settled back in Kolsva after his wife's passing, entering a relationship with Anna-Greta Leijon.
