Susan L. Farmer was an American politician, media executive, and television personality, born on May 29, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts. She became politically active during the Vietnam War and held significant roles, including finance director for U.S. Senator John Chafee. Farmer served as Rhode Island's Secretary of State from 1982 to 1986, making history as the first woman in that office. After leaving office, she managed Rhode Island PBS until retirement. She passed away on September 16, 2013, and was honored posthumously in various ways, including a sandwich named after her.
