Svend Robinson, born on March 4, 1952, is a Canadian politician who served as a Member of Parliament from 1979 to 2004. He represented the electoral districts in the suburbs of Vancouver for the New Democratic Party (NDP) and is notably recognized as the first Canadian MP to come out as gay while in office. Robinson acknowledged committing theft of an expensive ring in 2004 and chose not to run in the June 2004 elections. He was a long-serving member of the House of Commons, having been elected for seven consecutive terms.
