Takaaki Kajita is a Japanese physicist born in 1959 in Higashimatsuyama, Japan. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Tokyo in 1986. Currently, he serves as the director of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research (ICRR) and is a professor at the University of Tokyo. In 2015, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, jointly with Canadian physicist Arthur McDonald, for their discovery of the mass of neutrinos.
