Currently, he serves as the director of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research (ICRR) and is a professor at the University of Tokyo. In 2015, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, jointly with Canadian physicist Arthur McDonald, for their discovery of the mass of neutrinos.
