Takao Sakita (April 22, 1920 - August 19, 2002) was a Japanese internal medicine physician and medical researcher. He was an esteemed professor emeritus at Tsukuba University and served as the honorary director of Showa Public Hospital. Sakita played a pivotal role in the development and global dissemination of gastroscopy. He contributed to the establishment and growth of various medical associations related to gastroenterology and was instrumental in early gastric cancer diagnosis using endoscopy, along with creating classifications for peptic ulcers.
