Thomas Allan Dowling is an American mathematician born on February 19, 1941, in Little Rock. He studied at Creighton University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1962, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1967. Dowling has held positions at various universities, including Ohio State University. He is notable for his contributions to combinatorics and co-formulated the Dowling–Wilson conjecture. He has been a fellow of NASA and received a National Science Foundation Fellowship during his career.
