Thomas Richard Waller, born on July 18, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, is a prominent American malacologist and paleontologist. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin and completed his Ph.D. in geology at Columbia University in 1966. He has been an Associate Curator and later a Curator for mollusks at the Smithsonian Institution since 1966. His research focuses on the evolution, ecology, functional morphology, and systematics of bivalves, especially scallops. He established the bivalve order Limida in 1978.
