He specialized in analytical chemistry and radiochemistry, and he contributed significantly to scientometrics as a researcher and editor. Braun founded several scientific journals, including Scientometrics, where he served as the editor-in-chief, helping to institutionalize the field. He was a professor at Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest and directed the Information Science and Scientometric Research Unit at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1986, he received the Derek de Solla Price Medal.
