Tofiq Mikayılov was an Azerbaijani scientist and doctor of biological sciences, born on January 15, 1931, in Agdam. He completed his studies at the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute with honors in 1952. Mikayılov defended his candidate's dissertation on the parasitic fauna of fish in the Kura River in 1958, followed by his doctoral thesis in 1969. As a professor, he led significant research in hydroparasitology, contributed to the establishment of the first laboratory for aquatic animal parasites in the Soviet Union, and published over 150 scientific works.
