Usha Ranjan Ghatak (1931–2005) was an Indian biochemist and structural chemist renowned for his pioneering work in the synthesis of polycarbocyclic diterpenoids. He served as the director of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) and was a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences as well as the Indian National Science Academy. Ghatak was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1974 for his contributions to chemical research. His legacy includes significant advancements in the understanding of organic synthesis and he mentored many doctoral students during his career.
