Valeriu Matei, born on March 31, 1959, in Kazangic, is a Moldovan-Romanian writer and politician. He served as a member of the Moldovan parliament starting in 1990. In addition to his political career, he is a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and has been an honorary member of the Romanian Academy since 2011. Matei participated in the presidential elections in Moldova in 1996, contributing to both literature and politics in the region.
