Vasant Shankar Kanetkar (1922-2000) was an acclaimed Indian Marathi-language playwright and novelist from Maharashtra. Born in Rahimatpur, he was influenced by his poet father and received his education in Pune and Sangli. Kanetkar gained acclaim with his popular play 'Raigadala Jevha Jag Yete' and contributed significantly to Marathi theatre. He was awarded the best play award by the Maharashtra State Government for five of his works and won a Filmfare Award for his story in a Hindi film adaptation. In recognition of his literary achievements, he received the Padma Shri award in 1992.
