Vladimir Komanov was a prominent Ukrainian engineer and candidate of technical sciences, born on June 19, 1938. He played a significant role in the development of rocket systems at the Južnoe Design Bureau, becoming the chief designer of the space rocket direction in 1986. Komanov contributed to the construction of various rockets, such as Cyclone-2, Cyclone-3, Zenit-2, and the Energy-Buran system. He was later appointed deputy chief designer for the Sea Launch program and was instrumental in adapting the Zenit-2 rocket for maritime conditions. He also engaged in politics as a Republican party leader.
