Wallace M. Barnett Jr. was an influential American politician and advocate born on February 7, 1931, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Serving in the Nebraska State Legislature from 1971 to 1978, he was a strong proponent of women's rights and fire safety. He is best known for introducing the first state law against spousal sexual assault in the U.S., setting a precedent for other states. Barnett also contributed to domestic violence reform and fire safety initiatives, earning recognition for his efforts throughout his life until his passing on March 18, 2016.
