Yatsuji Nagai was a Japanese Army officer born on January 20, 1901, in Ibaraki Prefecture. Graduating from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1921, he rose through the ranks to become a major general. His career included significant roles within military intelligence and as a staff officer during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Nagai participated in the signing of Japan's surrender on the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945. After being placed on a public office disqualification list in November 1947, he retired from active duty.
