Yozo Matsushima was a Japanese mathematician born on February 11, 1921, in Sakai and died on April 9, 1983, in Osaka. He graduated from Osaka University in 1942 under Kenjiro Shoda and began his academic career at Osaka and Nagoya universities. In 1960, he returned to Osaka to take over his mentor's position. Five years later, he became a professor at Notre Dame University in Indiana for 14 years before returning to Osaka. He specialized in differential geometry and published four monographs and numerous articles, notably in Lie algebras and complex manifolds.
