Yuji Matsuo is a former Japanese rugby union player, born on January 20, 1954. He played as a fly-half and is regarded as one of Japan's greatest rugby players. Matsuo represented Shin-Nittetsu Kamaishi and earned 24 caps for the national team between 1974 and 1984, scoring a total of 73 points through tries, conversions, penalties, and drop goals. After retiring from competitive rugby in 1985, Matsuo transitioned to a career as a sports journalist.
