Zdzisław Nurkiewicz, also known as 'Noc', was a Polish cavalry lieutenant born on February 10, 1901, in Włocławek. He served as a volunteer in World War I and fought in the September Campaign of 1939, where he was severely injured. During World War II, he was active in the AK and ZWZ resistance movements, commanding a team that formed the 'Legion of Nurkiewicz'. He was captured and sentenced to death in 1960, but was later released due to health issues. He spent his later years aiding veterans and was posthumously awarded numerous honors. He passed away on September 12, 1980.
