Zinaida Khabalova, born Miriam Savelyevna Ashkinazi on March 3, 1937, in South Ossetia, was a Soviet and Russian composer, musician, and public figure. She was recognized as an Honored Artist in 1987 and later awarded the title of People's Artist of North Ossetia in 1992. A member of the Union of Composers of the USSR since 1976, Khabalova holds the distinction of being the only female composer in the world known for writing symphonies, a fact that earned her a spot in the Guinness World Records.
