Artto Granroth was a Finnish cellist born on March 12, 1914, in Helsinki. He studied under Ossian Fohström and Tibor de Machula in Helsinki and also studied in Berlin and Paris. Granroth played in the Vyborg Orchestra from 1933 to 1935 and the Helsinki Theatre Orchestra from 1935 to 1937. From 1937 onwards, he was with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, becoming the principal cellist in 1947. He was also active in chamber music, performing in various groups including the Sibelius Quartet and a trio with his brother and a pianist.
