Joseph Asoka Nihal De Silva, born on May 17, 1946, is a prominent Sri Lankan jurist who served as the 42nd Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. He began his legal career after graduating from the University of Peradeniya in 1971 and joining the Supreme Court. After several key roles in the Attorney General's Department, he was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 1995 and later became its President in 2001. He also served as a member of Kenya's Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board in 2013. He holds advanced degrees in administrative law and criminology.
