Gad Loebenstein (February 17, 1929 - February 18, 2018) was a prominent virologist and professor of microbiology at Tel Aviv University from 1973. He was a visiting professor at the University of Birmingham in England during 1974–1975 and held a professorship at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Loebenstein served as the director of the Plant Protection Institute at the Volcani Center from 1967 to 1975 and as head of Agricultural Research Administration and chief scientist at the Ministry of Agriculture from 1981 to 1986. He was a pioneer in plant virology and diseases and contributed significantly to agricultural science.
