Jehan Despert was a French poet and essayist born on February 11, 1921, in Versailles. He published around sixty-five poetry collections and over twenty-five essays, earning accolades including the Alfred de Pontécoulant Prize in 1966 and the Louise-Labé Prize in 1989. He served as the perpetual secretary of the Academy of Moral, Literary, and Artistic Sciences of Versailles and the Yvelines, and received the European 'Dante' Poetry Prize in 2012. Despert passed away on July 9, 2018, and is buried in Guyancourt.
