Romanus served as an assistant physician and later as a professor of surgery at various prestigious institutions including the Karolinska Institute and the University of Gothenburg. He held editorial roles for important surgical journals and published several works in the field. Romanus passed away on May 3, 1982, and is buried in Västra kyrkogården in Gothenburg.
