Robert Tinsley Holtby was an Anglican priest and author, born on 25 February 1921 in Thornton-le-Dale. He was educated at Scarborough College and St Edmund Hall, Oxford. After being ordained in 1947, he served as a curate and later as a chaplain in various capacities, including Malvern College and St Edward's School. He held significant roles such as Canon Residentiary at Carlisle Cathedral and General Secretary of the National Society for Promoting Religious Education. He was Dean of Chichester until his retirement in 1989 and passed away on 13 March 2003.
