Shigeru Mochizuki was a prominent Japanese architectural engineer born on February 5, 1931, in Mishima, Shizuoka. He graduated from Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering in 1954 and later pursued a doctoral degree. After dropping out, he completed his PhD in 1967, focusing on seismic design in reinforced concrete structures. Mochizuki served as an associate professor at Musashi Institute of Technology from 1962, became a full professor in 1971, and retired in 2001 as a professor emeritus. He specialized in structural engineering and authored many influential works.
